ASTM A105 Weldolets Specifications

Date:2025-12-12

ASTM A105 is the most commonly used standard for carbon steel forgings, therefore ASTM A105 weldolet is widely used in oil and gas, chemical, power plant, and high-temperature, high-pressure systems. The ASTM A105 weldolet standard covers the pressure-temperature rating, material, dimensions, tolerances, marking, testing, and marking methods for openings.

Weldolet belongs to the olets branch fitting category, and its standards mainly follow:

MSS-SP 97 (General Standard for Olet Fittings);

ASME B31.1 / B31.3 (Pipeline Engineering);

ASTM A105 / A182 / A350 and other material standards.

Production of ASTM A105 Weldolet

1. Raw Material Inspection

Raw materials must meet the chemical composition and mechanical property requirements of ASTM A105.

Each batch of materials must undergo:

PMI material spectral analysis;

Tensile/impact testing;

Dimensional and visual inspection.

2. Hot Forging

Heating to 900°C1250°C;

Die forging or free forging;

Controlling grain refinement to improve mechanical strength.

3. Heat Treatment (Normalizing/Quenching & Tempering)

Ensuring hardness, strength, and ductility meet standards.

4. Machining (CNC Lathe)

Precision machining of branch pipe dimensions;

Ensuring the weld bevel matches the main pipe.

5. Surface Treatment

Rust-proofing oiling, galvanizing, electropolishing, etc.

6. Marking

Free marking according to customer requirements:

Material: A105 / A182 / LF2, etc.;

Dimensions;

Pressure rating;

Standard: ASME B16.11 / MSS-SP 97;

Heat No.

FAQ

1. Can weldolets be used in sour service (H2S)?

Yes, if using NACE MR0175 compliant materials, such as LF2, F22, Monel 400, Inconel 625.

2. Which standard covers weldolet?

MSS-SP 97 is the main standard

ASME B16.11 covers forging requirements for the material.

Summary

ASTM A105 weldolets are the most commonly used forged carbon steel branch fittings in oil and gas, chemical, and high-pressure pipeline systems. With their high strength, reliable weldability, and wide range of material options (stainless steel, duplex steel, nickel-based alloys, copper alloys, etc.), they are suitable for various pressure and corrosive conditions.
